Joan Hamilton’s journey as a horse breeder began at the tender age of six, marking the onset of a lifelong passion that would shape the future of Kalarama Farm. With an encyclopedic knowledge of the American Saddlebred that eclipses the everyday familiarity most hold with their morning routine, Joan stands as a towering figure in the equine world. Her expertise and dedication have not only elevated Kalarama to its legendary status but have also made her an iconic figure in the realm of horse breeding. Joan’s intuitive understanding of the Saddlebred, honed over decades of hands-on experience, ensures that Kalarama continues to be a beacon of excellence in the industry. Joan is actively involved in the day-to-day operations, from ultrasounding mares and foaling out foals to inseminating mares, shipping semen, and maintaining a vigilant eye over all aspects of the farm. This hands-on approach ensures that Kalarama continues to uphold its reputation for excellence

Diverging from her initial path, she ventured into the world of Financial Management, where she honed her skills within the high-stakes environment of large corporate finance. Armed with an impressive array of degrees, Estelle’s academic achievements are surpassed only by her meticulous attention to detail and her relentless pursuit of perfection. As the financial backbone of our operation, Estelle ensures that our business remains at the forefront of industry standards, embodying the spirit of a true worker bee. Mark’s lineage is steeped in the traditions of farming, igniting within him an unwavering drive to innovate within the agricultural sphere. From an early age, Mark was determined to create a self-sustaining farming ecosystem. His academic journey began in agriculture at university, but he quickly recognized the limitations of pursuing this passion without substantial financial backing. This realization steered him towards computer science, a field that promised the financial freedom to realize his agricultural dreams.

At the tender age of 17, Mark’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish his first business, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey through the world of entrepreneurship. Over the years, Mark has founded more than twenty companies, experiencing both the highs of success and the lessons of failure. His ventures culminated in the creation of the second-largest IT company in South Africa, a testament to his business acumen and understanding of market dynamics.

Despite his achievements in the corporate world, Mark’s heart remained in the fields of his youth. In his fifties, he rekindled his first love for horses and farming, channeling his vast experience and resources into Kalarama Farm LLC and VigorFoods Inc. Mark’s vision extends beyond breeding championship-caliber Saddlebred horses; he aspires to revolutionize the industry by producing the finest meat products available. Known for his indefatigable work ethic, Mark thrives on the challenges of long days, often working 20 hours to bring his vision to fruition. His journey from a farm boy to a successful entrepreneur, and back to his agricultural roots, embodies a full-circle commitment to excellence, innovation, and the nurturing of life in all its forms,
